BEGINNING ART: PRIMARY COLORS w/ Erin Spainhour Ages 4-7

Description: Your child will be learning about Primary Colors and the Elements of Art. They will create projects based on each color and element using a variety of mediums. Along with the other projects, they will work on creating one piece of art that includes all the colors and is inspired by a famous artist! Your child will go home with knowledge of the primary colors, the elements of art, and have an introduction to a new artist.

ADULT CLASSES

WATERCOLOR W/ RUTH :
LESSONS FROM THE MASTERS

Description: We will study the advice of at least 4 professional artists, perhaps using their books or dvds, and then try to incorporate their best working methods in to our own paintings. We will begin the class with one that uses wet in wet methods (a good way to loosen up if you have not been painting this summer) and end with one that uses wet on dry methods. Of course, these methods will be explained as well other basic painting terms. You will get plenty of individual attention, encouragement, and have fun with fellow artists.
Supplies: basic water color palette, brushes and papers (returning students bring what you have used before)
One Flat brush ¾” or 1”, Round brush with a point size 10, a pad of 140# cold press watercolor paper (the larger size tablet), basic tubes of watercolor paints in tubes. Primary colors of yellow, red, and blue are best. If you want to have a nice selection, then you might try the following; yellow: 1 tube that looks lemon yellow and 1 that looks golden yellow, red: 1 that has a rose in its name and 1 that looks orange/red, blue: cobalt is a good basic blue and ultramarine is a nice deep blue. You might also want a hookers green and a burn sienna.



INTRODUCTION TO OIL PAINTING
w/ Hayden Oliver (Beginner to Intermediate)

Description: This class is an introduction to the basics of oil painting. In this class you will learn a little bit about the history of oil painting, safety procedures when working with oil, and several oil painting techniques such as the direct method and grisaille/glazing. Experience with painting is helpful, but not required. As a warning, Oil Paint can be toxic and messy, and the fumes can be strong, therefore latex gloves and an apron are recommended to be worn in class. Topics covered may include: Practice studies, still-life, portrait, non-objective painting
Supplies:
Natural Hair Bristle Brushes in a variety of sizes, Silicoil Cleaning Fluid or Mineral Spirits, Canvas or panels, Palette Knife, Glass Palette (We could make our own), Palette Scraper, Latex Gloves and Aprons (Not required), Watercolor Pencils (for drawing images on the canvas), Liquin (for glazing)



ACRYLIC IN THE ABSTRACT
w/ Landon Henderson
Dates: Sept 11th - 25th, Oct 2nd - 16th

Description: Art can be anything you want it to be in your personal work. Acrylic paint will be the primary medium for this class and so we will begin with how to work with this particular medium. We will then study the work of various artists and recreate that work in our own interpretations allowing us to develop and strengthen our own voices as painters. It will also challenge us to take more risks and thereby increase our confidence in our own work.
Supplies: acrylic paint in basic red, yellow and blue for mixing and white possibly brown and black (others optional), three or more flat acrylic brushes in various sizes, one 11x14 or larger canvass or canvass panel for a main painting, 3-5 smaller ones for practice work (panels are a much more cost effective alternative)

AN INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING

Description: We will be studying the basic shapes and forms of structures we encounter around us daily. You will gain a deeper understanding of the shapes that make up every object, the way they interact with each other, and how movement affects them. In this class, you will learn: gesture drawing, contour drawing emphasizing form, creating shapes emphasizing value
Supplies: vine charcoal, woodless graphite, toned paper, conte (black and white), white vinyl eraser

Description: Make your clay ideas come to life! Drop-in anytime during open studio hours- newbies and experienced potters welcome. This class is less structured; you will be able to pick the projects you'd like to try! You can experience the wheel, or build a creation on the table. I will be there to assist any and every project! No experience necessary!




THE DIRTY HANDS SISTERHOOD w/ Emily Sizemore

Description: The Dirty Hands Sisterhood is a group of women who come together weekly to create, discuss spirituality, and love on each other. We use our time together to take a break from the world and rejuvenate our minds, bodies, and spirits. There is a spiritual emphasis that develops throughout the month; which ends up reflected in our clay creations. The class is free and is scheduled on a 4-week rotation. Space is limited- sign-up today!



SIP N SPIN

Description: Grab a group together for a wheel throwing class! Sip on your favorite wine while you and your friends spin some fun pots, cups, or whatever! No skill level needed. Bring a positive attitude and relax as you get messy working on the potter's wheel. You must be 21 and over to participate in this class. Bring your favorite beverage!

Description: Learn how to get started with art journaling. This is a fun way to let your creative self play, to process thoughts and emotions, to try new techniques and work out ideas.
