Arts in Education programs provide valuable experiences for students in Anderson County. Access to the arts is an important part in the learning process, providing students with a well-rounded educational experience. Arts education helps build academic skills and increase academic performance, while also providing alternative opportunities to reward the skills of children who learn differently.
The Anderson Arts Center, in partnership with the Anderson Alternative School has created a program for at risk youth, ages 12-18 years, in grades 6-12. Serving 35 students (approximately 40% of the school’s enrollment) professional artists provide students 90 minute weekly lessons at the Arts Center. At Risk Students are given the opportunity to engage in hands on learning experiences and a non-traditional exploration of personal achievement, high expectations, problem solving and positive self-expression. With the support of corporate and private donors, this program continues to grow and offer new and innovative ways for students to explore the arts.
