ASAS, a small group art studio, provides a unique opportunity for students to explore their creativity and develop their artistic skills. Meeting once per week from September through April, students are guided by trained, professional artists who help them hone their talents in 2-D and 3-D mediums. With classes available for ages 5-17, ASAS provides a supportive and nurturing environment for young artists to thrive and express themselves through art.

ASAS Classes
Includes: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Mixed Media, Sculpture
In this 15-week course, students will develop foundational skills and creative confidence through hands-on exploration in a variety of mediums that may include: drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, and sculpture. Guided by professional artists, students will learn essential techniques such as composition, color theory, perspective, texture, and form while experimenting with a wide range of tools and materials. Each project is designed to spark creativity, build technical ability, and encourage personal expression—whether you’re just beginning or looking to expand your artistic voice.

This is a 15-week ceramics class where students will learn to center, shape, trim, and glaze their own wheel-thrown pieces while also exploring creative handbuilding techniques and studio tools like the slab roller and extruder.
The course focuses on building confidence and creativity on the wheel, balanced with essential clay skills like surface decoration, reclaiming clay, and glaze application. No prior experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty!
What Students Will Learn

Wheel Throwing: Centering, pulling walls, shaping forms, trimming, and glazing

Handbuilding: Pinch, slab, coil, sculptural techniques

ASAS Class Information
After School Art Studio is a fun, small-group art experience that meets once a week from September–December and January–April. Led by a trained, professional artist, students explore a variety of media—including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, fibers, mixed media, and non-fired clay—through structured projects, group work, and open studio time.
Classes are designed to build foundational art skills while encouraging creativity, independent thinking, and personal expression. No prior art experience is required—just a love of making art!
Each session culminates in a student exhibit, showcasing the incredible work created throughout the semester.
- Wear clothes for getting messy.
- Classes meet weekly, in-person and are billed monthly (unless you decide to pay per semester)
- Session 1 runs September – December & Session 2 runs January – April. Session 2 registration will begin in November.
- All art materials are included.
- ASAS will follow the Anderson School District 5 calendar.
- There will be no ASAS classes the week of November 24th.
- All classes have to have at least 6 students register to run. Please share with your friends!

Instructors:

Sariah Johnson
My name is Sariah Johnson. I am working on an Associates degree in Media Art Production. From there I’ll pursue a BS in Education to become an art teacher. I worked at the Arts Center summer camp as a Teacher this past summer. I enjoy working with students and inspiring them through Art. I truly believe that art is more than just learning how to pick up a paintbrush or pencil. Art allows children to express their emotions and thoughts in a positive way.

Dawn Waters
Hello my name is Dawn Waters a bit about me, I have a degree early education, and I was an officer in south Florida. I have worked at BHP, along with AAC in the past. I am always looking to help children and young adults grow in the best versions of themselves, I am currently giving equine lessons and look forward to rejoining Anderson Art Center

Donna Persinger
Donna Persinger is a multimedia artist with a primary focus on encaustic painting. She retired from a career in Special Education and Therapeutic Recreation where she utilized art in therapeutic and educational activities. Donna enjoys exploring possibilities in every medium looking beyond what is immediately evident reveling in the exploration of color combinations, textures, and employing materials in a variety of ways. Her work is intuitive flowing from her heart to express her connection to the world around her.

Kim Bowen
Kim Bowen has a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters in Education along with over thirty years of experience in Ceramics and various other art forms. For many years, she taught third and fourth grade but she loves to teach individuals of all ages. She strongly believes in the importance of fostering creativity and joy in her students. She invites you to come join us for a relaxing and fun time!

Eve Marino
Eve is an insatiable explorer and conveyer of clay. She has had her hands in clay for over 30 years. During the past 7 years, she has been teaching various methods with clay through workshops and private lessons all around the upstate with her MudBus.
Eve believes everyone can make something great and is excited to show you the ways of clay by guiding you in making functional pottery & forever memories.
